The overlord of Nungua, Nii Odaifio Welentsi extended warm congratulations his priest Gborbu Wulomo, Nuumo Borketey Laweh XXXIII for his marriage to 12-year-old Naa Okromo.

He cites a connection of their custom to biblical practices in Leviticus 21 13-15 …. “The high priest must marry a woman who is a virgin. He must not marry a widow, a divorced woman, or a prostitute. He must marry a virgin from his own people so the people will respect his children as his own”

According to the Nungua Mantse this custom is the requirement that the priest marries a virgin.

He explained that, there are no virgin girls in Nungua today above the age of 9 years. However, In the exceptional case of 12-year-old Naa Okromo the necessary rites and steps were promptly performed to honor the tradition.

The Mantse stated though that with enlightenment, there is need to critically assess all customary practices and review aspects which may have become outmoded.
