Nungua Mankralo has reacted to public outrage over the marriage between the 63-year-old traditional priest and the 12-year-old girl.

Nii Bortey Kofi Frankwa II, the Mankralo of Nungua has reacted to those calling for the Gender Ministry to rescue the 12-year-old married to the 63-year-old traditional priest.

63-year-old Gborbu Wulormor of Nungua married 12-year-old Naa Okromo in a traditional ceremony on Saturday March 30, 2024.

The marriage has received criticism from a good number of people as they view it as pedophilia under the guise of custom.

Some people have called on DOVVSU and the Gender Ministry to step him and rescue the 12-year-old.

Others are calling for the arrest of the traditional priest and the parents of the girl who agreed to the marriage.

Well, the elders of Nungua have addressed the issue with a response to their critics.

Speaking to GHOne TV, Mankralo of Nungua, Nii Bortey Kofi Frankwa II said persons calling for the intervention of the Gender Ministry are talking out of ignorance as the rites performed over the weekend is customary and will not interfere with the girl’s education.

He said if the country is to ban the customs of Nungua because of this marriage then they should first ban Christianity and Islam these two religions endorse such marriages.

 

 

According to the Nungua Mankralo, the Biblical Mary that Joseph married was an underage virgin.

He added that  Mohammed also married an underage virgin so if the state authorities have problem with the Nungua traditional priest marrying a 12-year-old girl, they must first ban Christianity and Islam.
