Asamoah Gyan has rekindled the Blackstars captaincy saga in a latest interview.

Events leading to the 2019 African Cup of Nations, Coach Akwesi Appiah stripped off Gyan’s captaincy and gave it to Andre Ayew.

This sparked a controversy leading to Gyan’s temporary retirement and an eventual compensation as General captain.

Asamoah Gyan thinks Andre Ayew should have rejected the captaincy with all the controversies on how Gyan was treated by the coach.

Quizzed on why he accepted the captain’s armband when he was chosen to replace John Mensah. Gyan said unlike the current situation, John Mensah wasn’t a member of the AFCON squad.

He added that though his seniors then weren’t part of the team, he asked handlers of the National team whether they have informed the likes John Mensah and Essien before he accepted to captain the team.
