Meet Caleb Ekuban, the Italian born Ghanaian who scored the winner for Ghana against Kenya (Photos)

Ghana Blackstars defeated Kenya yesterday to finish top of their group in the AFCON 2019 qualifier.

The Blackstars for a long time received a great reception at the Accra Sports Stadium with tickets sold out.

Though the team labored to win by one goal to nil, a new star was born in Caleb Ekuban who scored the winning goal for Ghana in his first ever game in Africa.

Caleb Ekuban was born on 23rd March 1994 to Ghanaian parents, Rev Kobina and Sabina Ekuban in Villafranca di Verona, Italy.

His father is a District Elder for the Pentecostal Assembly of Churches in Italy.

He grew up in the youth system of Chievo Verona but couldn’t have his break through in the senior team.

In 2017, he was signed by English club, Leeds United in a 4 years contract.

In the beginning of the 2018/19 season, he was loaned by Leeds to Turkey to play for Trabzonspor where he has scored 9 goals for them this season.

He played his first game for Ghana on his 25th Birthday, 23rd March 2019 and scored the winning goal.

Though Caleb was born in Italy, he is able to speak Fante, the language of his parents.
