John Paintsil lied; I didn’t steal any watch – Don Bortey

Former Hearts of Oak player, Bernard Don Bortey has blamed former Black Stars defender John Painstil for his failed career.

Bortey claims the controversy-infested former Ghana defender falsely accused him of stealing a watch when he was on trial at Meccabi Tel Aviv in Israel in 2004.

In an interview with Joy FM at the Pobiman training grounds of Hearts, Don Bortey who lodged with Paintsil during his trial period blamed the theft case on destroying his blistering career at the time.

“I didn’t steal any watch in Israel, John Paintsil lied about the whole thing just to destroy me,” he said.

Bortey’s preliminary with the Israeli side finished after he was blamed for robbery and extradited back to Ghana when his vocation was topping.

The 36-year old never returned to his best and accuses John Painstil of assuming a job in his go wrong to grass.

“That boy is my friend but I don’t want to talk about him (Painstil),” he told Joy FM reporters. “He is one of the reasons my career went this way,” he added.

“Let’s forget about him,” he said in a disappointing tone.
