Armed Robbers attack ambulance transporting pregnant woman in labour, shoot driver

Armed robbers have attacked ambulance transporting pregnant woman in labour.

The driver of the ambulance was shot by the robbers in the incident which happened around 1am on Thursday on the Somanya to Akuse road.

According to Kasapa News, the driver in charge of Yilo Krobo Constituency Ambulance with registration Number GV 644-20 went to pick the woman in preterm labour (31 weeks) from Akuse government Hospital to Eastern Regional Hospital since Akuse Hospital has no neonatal intensive care unit(NICU).

The driver chanced on a robbery incident whiles speeding off but the robbers followed and shot him in the head.

Fortunately a police patrol team reached the scene early enough to rush the driver to the hospital.

He is currently receiving treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where he was referred to when his condition got critical.
