Wiyaala on Saminifest flyer controversy – “If nobody wants to give me my flowers, I will take it by force”
Wiyaala, an Afropop singer and songwriter, has reaffirmed her resolve to uphold her reputation as a female artist and not allow it to be disparaged.
Wiyaala expressed her disapproval of the way she was positioned on a Saminifest promotional poster in December of last year.
Samini’s performance was slated to take place at the Royal Cosy Hills Hotel (Jirapa Dubai) on January 1, 2024.
Wiyaala was at the very end of the promotional poster, after artists like Kuami Eugene and Fancy Gadam, while Samini was at the top.
The award-winning singer threatened to back out of the show if her position on the promotional brochure wasn’t modified, only hours after it was posted on Facebook.
In an interview with AJ Sarpong on 3FM Lounge, the ‘Africa’ crooner expressed that she felt it was inappropriate for her to be depicted in that way on the promotional slip.
She expressed her desire for the flyer to be altered, citing the impression it gave that she was a rising star.
I’m aware of my capabilities, and I’ll take it by force if someone pretends not to give me my flowers. That will not be permitted by me. I’ll take the spot I rightfully deserve because you want something and we agreed on something. I will not receive treatment similar to that of a ( upcoming artist )
“If you place me behind like that, we all know what it means. I am not some upcoming artiste. I am going to be behind Samini any day but for my two brothers they have to let me introduce them”, she said on Friday, March 22.
Wiyaala emphasized that, as a female artist, she will not tolerate being ignored with such contempt.
“There’s this misconception that female artists can’t be the main attraction at events. I only really see that a lot in Ghana. regardless of how excellent the female performer is. Not me, the singer clarified.
Later, in response to Wiyaala’s complaints, Samini promised to alter the flyer.
Samini claimed not to be aware of the specific artwork in question and stated he will get in touch with the organizers to take care of the matter as soon as possible.
