There was drama on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at the Ghana Law School between Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong and a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council (GLC), Lawyer Sam Okudzeto over a case filed by the former against ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Mr Kennedy Agyapong who was at the place which happens to be the offices of the GLC to hear the outcome of his petition filed against the ace journalist who doubles as a lawyer had vowed to remove the mask of Anas by force but was told in the face by lawyer Sam Okudzeto he would be arrested and charged for assault if he dared.

Unsatisfied with the response and the fact he was being shouted at, he accused the General Legal Council of shielding Anas indicating that he was not afraid of him and stormed out of the meeting fuming with rage.

“I am not afraid of Anas…I will remove that mask on his face”, he was overheard saying as he came out to move away.

In July this year, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong filed a petition to the General Legal Council seeking to have Anas Aremeyaw Anas sanctioned for allegedly engaging in what he described as “unprofessional misconduct” after accusing him of collecting money from some alleged criminals to shield them from facing the law.

His justification was a  45-minute video he captioned: “Who watches the watchman,” depicted separate meetings in which a narrator claimed that some of the footages were attempts by Anas to shield certain criminals from being punished by the law after they allegedly duped a foreigner of millions of dollars in a gold scam.

“Respectfully, in the said documentary, Anas Aremeyaw Anas was seen and heard in a conversation with someone it later turned out to be a Chief State Attorney by name, Ellen Kwakume discussing how both must collaborate and successfully work towards tainting evidence gathered by Anas Aremeyaw Anas against three suspects therein namely, Mohammed Hafiz, Mubarak Seidu and Prince Kinston Kwame who were later charged as 1st, 2nd and 3rd accused, respectively.”

“Interestingly, Anas Aremeyaw Anas revealed to the Chief State Attorney that the suspects had bought him with $100,000, paid 75,000 to Mr. Frank Adu Poku, the then CID Director-General and also paid $5,000 into the account of the Chief State Attorney in order to taint the evidence and make the case foolish,” the MP stated in his petition.

But his request was turned down by the General Legal Council on grounds that it lacked merit urging him to report the matter to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service if he has issues that bother on criminality against the journalist.
