VIDEO: Muntaka chases Carlos Ahenkorah as the NPP MP snatches ballot papers for Speaker of Parliament election

The 8th Parliament of Ghana is being inaugurated today after the December 7 Election.

The December 7 Election didn’t give any party majority as both NPP and NDC got 137 seats with 1 independents candidate.

As rules of parliament demanded, there needed to be an election of a Speaker of Parliament for the 8th Parliament.

For the first time in ages the election was done via secret ballot and it was between the NPP’s choice Prof. Mike Ocquaye and NDC’s Alban Bagbin.

During the counting of the ballot NPP MP for Tema West Carlos Ahenkorah snatched the ballot papers from the Clerk of Parliament when he realized the Prof. Mike Ocquaye was losing.

He was given a hot chase by the security in parliament and Hon. Muntaka as he ran out of the chamber.

Finally he was apprehended by Hon. Muntaka, the chief whip of the NDC.
