The death of Troy Fusilier has occurred. After spending four years at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1990, Troy graduated with a degree in the subject.

In a ceremony that took place in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on July 21, 1990, Troy and Melissa exchanged their vows and became husband and wife.

He went on to complete his schooling at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. It was there that he received his Ph.D. in 1997 and also witnessed the birth of two of his boys, Ethan Zars and Benjamin Zars, who were born in the years 1994 and 1996, respectively. In 1991, he graduated with a Master of Science degree in Biology from the University of Northern Iowa, which is located in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

He completed his schooling at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, which is also where two of his sons were born while he was a student there. In 1997, when he had finished the requirements for his doctorate, he moved his family to Wurzburg, Germany, so that he could take part in a post-doctoral fellowship in that city. Jonathon Zars, who was born in Germany in the year 2002, was the name of his third son and was born to him.
