The youngest son of RCA/NBC media tycoon David Sarnoff, Thomas W. Sarnoff, had a six-decade career at NBC. Thomas W. Sarnoff has now passed away. He was 96.
A representative for the Television Academy Foundation confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Sarnoff passed away on Sunday. No specific cause of death was given.

He was reportedly the “first live star” of television when he was a test subject for the Radio Corporation of America/NBC World’s Fair demonstration of the TV medium in the 1930s. He was born on February 23, 1927, in New York City into the storied American media family.
Robert Sarnoff, one of his two brothers, is best known for having succeeded his father as the CEO and board chairman of RCA.
Prior to serving in World War II as a combat engineer and as a signal corps instructor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Thomas Sarnoff attended Princeton University.
After the war, he changed schools and enrolled at Stanford University, where in 1948 he earned a bachelor of science in electrical engineering and went on to study at the Graduate School of Business Administration. Instead of working for NBC in 1949, Sarnoff joined ABC in Los Angeles as a floor manager.
