Shirley Schmirler Obituary, Mother of Canadian Curler Sandra Schmirler
Shirley Schmirler was a beloved mother, wife, and devoted volunteer. The Sandra Schmirler Foundation is very sad to report her demise.
Since our Foundation’s founding in 2001, Shirley has devoted many hours to it and was a beloved part of our staff. We send Shirley’s family and friends our sincere condolences.
Shirley was raised with a passion for curling and was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. On a natural two-sheeter in Glaslyn, Saskatchewan, she received her curling training. Shirley was a member of the Biggar Curling Club up until the year 2000 before moving to Regina to help her daughter Sandra take care of her grandkids.
At the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Shirley was a well-known spectator, supporting her daughter Sandra, who took first place three times. Shirley was a dedicated volunteer and fundraiser for our Foundation’s mission to help newborns who were either born prematurely, too small, or ill. She was also a proud mother.
