Parliamentary Candidate Wins Hearts by Unbraiding Hair, Cooking with Constituents

The NDC’s candidate for Asokwa’s parliamentary seat, Amoh Kamel, has begun canvassing neighborhoods.

Kamel is interacting closely and personally with the people he aspires to represent, as opposed to adhering to conventional campaign strategies.

This strategy has involved helping with routine tasks like cooking and unbraiding hair, which has sparked a lot of discussion.

Since the door-to-door effort began not long ago, Kamel has made great progress in building relationships with the locals.

He wants to better understand the needs and problems of the people he serves by having direct interactions with them in their homes. In addition to removing obstacles, this hands-on approach is fostering rapport and trust among voters.

Engaging in non-formal activities such as cooking together or unbraiding hair has created spaces that facilitate meaningful talks. Through these exchanges, Kamel is able to learn about the concerns that Asokwa residents care about most by listening to their personal tales.

One campaign highlight for me was when Kamel went to a local home and assisted a mother of three daughters with unbraiding her hair.

Another time, Kamel helped a family prepare a customary supper.

Social media users are taking notice of Kamel’s unorthodox campaign approach as well, as images and videos of his contacts with the people.
