The Ridgefield school community is in mourning following the death on Thursday of a teen who, according to school administrators, represented the school’s “be kind” philosophy.
Nia Simpson, a junior at Ridgefield High School, was 17 years old. According to Ridgefield High School Principal Jacob Greenwood’s statement to students and family on Friday, Nia Simpson was a vital member of the school community.
The cause of the death has not been disclosed by school or town officials.
“Nia was involved in all facets of life at RHS, participating in volleyball, lacrosse, and ice hockey, and acting as a crucial member of student council where she represented their motto to “be nice,” ” wrote Greenwood. According to Greenwood, beginning on Friday and through through the following week, mental health professionals will be accessible to help students and employees with a range of counseling needs.
