Some supporters of the New Patriotic Party have chased out staff of ECG at Asesewa in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The irate supporters have accused the ECG of the town of intentionally cutting out power supply on Tuesday just when Vice President Bawumia was about to address a party rally at the Asesewa Market.
They stormed the ECG premises of the town, chased out the workers on accusations that they are on a mission to sabotage the party and make them unpopular.
A worker of ECG tried to explain the cause of the power outage to Joynews stating that the Asesewa district has its source of power distribution from a substation at Akyem-Tafo, hence the Asesewa office could not have deliberately interrupted power supply to sabotage NPP.
He added that a team had to trace the source of the power cut to Boti where a tree branch had fallen on the main distribution cable.
Philip Mamphey, the leading member of the NPP in Upper Manya Krobo didn’t buy the explanation of the ECG worker.
As for electricity, the can be emergency outages most of the time. But this is not the first time this is happening in the Upper Manya constituency, In 2012, the same thing happened and in 2020 it has happened again.
“And so the community and our party people have suspected that this is a deliberate act t make our party unpopular and disrupt the programme. And that is unfair,” he said.
