Food stamps are part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) allows low-income families to purchase nutritious foods.

New York ranks 44th out of 50 states for lowest percentage of households receiving food stamps at 2.0%. The study is based on a total of 7,302,710 New Yorker households who reported whether or not food stamps were received.

The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program is a special supplemental food program for women, infants, and children up to the age of 5. All applicants must be income eligible and have a medical or nutritional risk.
