Michael Martindale Dies in I-84 Accident, Filer ID, Construction worker
A semi trucked crashed through barricades in a construction zone Saturday evening on Interstate 84 and struck a construction worker, killing him, reports say.
Michael Martindale, 22, of Filer, was struck by a westbound Freightliner driven by a 75-year-old man from Anaheim, California, at about 7:30 p.m. at milepost 183 in Jerome County after the vehicle went into a closed lane of travel in the construction zone, police say.
After striking Martindale, the semi continued westbound, striking a Ford Ranger pickup truck before coming to rest.
Nathan Jerke, spokesperson for the Idaho Transportation Department, told the Times-News that the semi-truck went through barricades before entering the construction zone.
Martindale, whose identity was released by the Jerome County Coroner’s Office, died at the scene, the ISP said, and westbound Exit 182 was closed for more than five hours while crews cleared the crash scene.
