Menzgold Case: Court Orders Nana Appiah Mensah to Present Defense

The CEO of the now-defunct Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah, was put on trial in December of last year. The businessman and entertainment investor, also referred to as NAM1, was charged with 39 counts by the Attorney General, to which he entered a not guilty plea.

Among many other things, the charges included money laundering exceeding GH₵340 million, selling gold without a license, and being coerced into investing.

Judge Ernest Owusu-Dapaah presided over the July 11 court hearing, which determined whether or not Nana Appiah Mensah, the CEO of Brew Marketing Consult and the now-defunct Menzgold gold store, would be allowed to enter a defense or not.

The accused sold gold to the general public while its business was unknown to the Minerals Commission, the court found.

In addition, the court determined that he had a case to answer for allegedly convincing the public to invest more than GH₵340 million.

Victims of Nana Appiah Mensah’s activities and Menzgold clients have already demanded that he be prosecuted as soon as possible.
