For the song Lights on the Hill, she received the first Golden Guitar honor at the 1973 Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Fanny Lumsden, a Golden Guitar and ARIA award winner, paid homage to the icon on social media.
As Lumsden continued to perform her songs in venues across regional Australia, she said that she would “draw strength” from McKean.
“Thank you, Joy,” she wrote.
Anne Kirkpatrick and David Kirkpatrick, McKean’s children, are still alive, as are four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
