Jake Luxemburger Dies in a Tragic Oldham County Car Accident
A child was killed in a crash as a suspect fled police in Oldham County, according to Kentucky State Police.
KSP said that a trooper tried to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling south on Interstate 71 around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Police say the driver failed to stop and kept traveling south at high speeds before getting off at Exit 14. That exit goes to Crestwood and Peewee Valley.
As it got off the exit, police say the vehicle hit an SUV traveling north on Kentucky Highway 329.
KSP said a child in the SUV died from injuries sustained in the crash. The SUV’s driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver who fled police, 23-year-old Tymetrius Walter, was taken into custody at the scene and has been charged with murder, wanton endangerment, receiving stolen property, first-degree assault and several traffic offenses.
The child who died has been identified as Jake Luxemburger, a fifth grader at Kenwood Station Elementary.
In a letter to parents today, the principal said “Everyone who came in contact with Jake saw that he was a funny, sweet and kind human. He never went without a smile on his face.”
This is an ongoing investigation.
Walter is being held at the Oldham County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 25.
