Good News For Menzgold Customers As Gov’t Begins Plans To Pay Them
Government has taken a decision to track down all assets and personal investments of the CEO of defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM 1) to reimburse the customers of the gold dealership firm.
It is believed it will be some percentage of their investment that will be reimbursed as government tasks the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) to track all properties of NAM 1 and sell them off.
EOCO in the coming days is expected to applying to the court for permission to sell the assets to help pay back some percentage of Menzgold customers’ investment.
As government remains resolute over the decision that tax payers’ monies won’t be used to settle the debts, EOCO has reportedly seized a number of lands in prime areas in Accra, Kasoa and Prampram belonging to NAM 1.
Other properties including six luxurious houses and 43 cars including Mitsubishi Pajeros, Range Rovers, Mercedes Benz, Toyota land cruiser V8 among others have been seized in the said operation.
NAM 1 is under pressure to refund to the over 60,000 customers their principals after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) ordered Menzgold to halt its operations in September 2018, following breaches of its lincense.
Meanwhile, 53 men military men have filed a law suit against MenzGold Ghana Limited for failing to pay back their total investment of GH¢2.5 million.
The military men cut across the Ghana Armed Forces, Navy and Ghana Air force say all attempts to retrieve their money has proven futile.
They are, per the writ of summons issued on last year, 12th December, they pray the court will order a refund of their money, ranging between GH¢18,000 and GH¢244,000.
They soldiers are arguing that even if the MenzGold claims that it cannot pay their interest, they are entitled to their principals.
