GoFundMe; Ravi Srinivasan, International Film Festival Worker
Ravi Srinivasan who worked for the International Film Festival is reported dead.
We regret to inform you of the unexpected passing of Ravi Srinivasan. Ravi was a shining star in this world and will be sorely missed.
He had such a positive impact on so many people’s lives, and now it’s our turn to help his family out in these trying times.
His death was published in a post from TIFF:
“We are saddened and shocked to learn of the sudden passing of our colleague and friend Ravi Srinivasan. As a programmer, a champion for filmmakers, and director of his hometown film festival in Sarnia, Ontario, Ravi was known to many for his passion, his generosity, and the joy he brought to cinema.
Ravi’s love for film lit up rooms. In 2013, he joined TIFF as a Festival Programming Associate. In 2019 he became a programmer for Canadian and International feature films, then took on a full-time role as Senior Manager, Festival Programming in 2022. Ravi also programmed films for the Hot Docs festival.
In 2014, Ravi founded his event in Sarnia, where he grew up. As both Executive Director and Artistic Director of the South Western International Film Festival, Ravi oversaw the birth and growth of an important new regional film event.
Ravi’s deep knowledge of cinema and his passion for film as an inclusive art form helped transform film culture in Canada. For Ravi, who drew on both his Filipino and his Indian immigrant heritage in his work, representation always mattered. It was built into how he viewed films, and how he invited all audiences to engage with the stories on screen that moved them.
I was fortunate enough to work with Ravi for nearly a decade. I always appreciated his sharp perspectives on films, but what I loved most was his sense of humor and his generosity to all. Ravi Srinivasan embraced life, movies, and people, in all their complexity. We will miss him dearly.” —Cameron Bailey, CEO
