From A Phone Call To The Unveiling – Here’s How The Boateng To Barca Deal Happened
FC Barcelona having been looking for a back up striker for Luis Suarez and they finally settled on utility player, Kevin Prince Boateng.
The coach of the Catalans, Valverde had a shortlist of three players and Prince Boateng wasn’t amongst the three.
The head coach of Barcelona, Ernesto Valverde’s first choice amongst the short listed three was Carlos Vela but some board members of the club kicked against signing the Mexican because they thought he’d be expensive for a temporary solution.
Next on the list was Morata, but the idea wasn’t entertained because getting him from Chelsea would’ve come at a huge cost.

3rd on Velverde’s list was Cedric Bakambu but his Chinese club refused to enter into any discussion.
Suddenly Kevin Prince Boateng’s name was presented to Valverde. It was a deal much easier to pull off than the others but the coach had his doubts.
He wasn’t sure he would adapt to the Barca style of play. Amongst other things, he didn’t know about his current form at Sassuolo.
It was at this moment when a crucial phone call took place. Segura, Abidal and Planes called Quique Setien who coached Boateng at Las Palmas and had Valverde sit in on the conversation.
Quique Setien convinced Valverde to give Boateng a try after giving a positive review of the player to the Barca coach.
Valverde gave his blessings to the transfer and had Barca’s sporting Director begin negotiations with Sassuolo on Saturday.
They managed to reach an agreement with the Italian club on Sunday and on Monday the deal was officially announced.
