A football fan has been slapped with a 6 week jail sentence for racially abusing Mohammed Salah.
Gary Hyland, an Everton fan posted a series of posts on on twitter to racially abuse Liverpool Star Salah.
The posts were aimed at the Muslim faith of the Egyptian international who plays for the domestic rivals of Everton.
He photoshopped images of Salah praying at Mecca with his teammates with anti Islam caption. Gary Hyland also photoshopped Salah in a suicide vest to suggest he’s a terrorist suicide bomber.
Though the 6 week jail sentence has been suspended for 12 months the Liverpool Magistrates’ Court also ruled that he offer 200 hours of unpaid work.
Angela Conlan, of from the Crown Prosecution Service had the following to say about the issue
“These sorts of remarks fuel racial hatred and are extremely offensive to people from the race or religion that they are aimed at,”
“Mohamed Salah does not deserve to be the object of abuse and neither does any person in a civilised society.”
