FixTheCountry: Lands Commission workers allegedly create ‘Shadow Search’ to help criminals sell non-existing lands to people

Land ownership problem has been one of the biggest problems in Ghana ever since gaining independence.

There are many instances where a particular land is sold to multiple buyers and the buyers have to fight themselves to claim ownership of the land.

Some people buy land, get all necessary documents only for another supposed owner to show up with thugs to demand payment for the land.

Apparently a new land crime syndicate have been operating in Ghana.

This syndicate allegedly has workers at the Lands Commission as prime members and what they do is called “Shadow Search”.

What they do is to change the names of original owners of Lands temporarily into other people’s names when a buyer wants to know who owns the land and reverses it into the original owner’s name after payment.

This was shared on Twitter by lecturer of Regional Maritime University, Dr. E.A Tetteh.

Another Twitter also shared a story of how his brother fell victim to this syndicate;

This is true..My brother experienced this in Sunyani. It’s a syndicate that involves land agents, the police, the assembly and the land’s commission… crime perpetrated by the same people whom we’ve entrusted to uphold law and order. I lost faith in our institutions since then”
