Preceded in death by his wife Bridget, Gerry is survived by his children Jimmy, Patrick, Irene, Joe, and Deirdre, as well as his grandchildren Caoimhe, Aoibheann, and Ellen. His impact extended to his wider family, friends, and fellow athletes.

He will be laid to rest in Newtown Cross Lawns Cemetery. In lieu of family flowers, donations may be made to the ICU at James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown.
