A CSX railroad worker was hit by a train and killed Sunday morning in the CSX Walbridge Yard, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers.
The CSX worker, 56-year-old Frederick M. Anderson Jr., of Waterville, Ohio, was hit by a train around 3:40 a.m. on an active railway track, OSHP said. Troopers say the preliminary investigation shows the train was traveling south when Anderson was hit.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is opening an investigation into Anderson’s death and will send two investigators.
“CSX confirms that an employee was fatally injured in the course of working early this morning in Walbridge, Ohio,” CSX officials said in a statement. “CSX mourns the loss of this employee and our thoughts are with his family and loved ones. The safety of our railroaders is our highest priority. CSX is working with officials to determine exactly what happened.”
