Cuba accepts to train 40 needy Zongo students as doctors every year following Bawumia’s Proposal

Cuba has accepted to train 40 brilliant but needy Ghanaian students who wish to become Doctors every year.

This follows a proposal to the American nation by the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.

Bawumia proposed to the Cuba government to extend the special arrangement they have with Ghana to training of health personnel in deprived communities.

According to the new initiative signed by the two countries, Cuba has offered to take 40 brilliant but needy students every year to their renowned medical schools to be trained.

The students will be picked from the Zongos, inner cities and other deprived communities in Ghana.
To ensure gender balance, 20 of the beneficiaries every year will be females.

The government of Cuba already have a policy of breaking the myth which makes medical school a preserve of the elite in society. The country has over 80,000 doctors because of this policy.
