According to Cook County prosecutors, a woman who had been missing for three days was discovered dead, tucked inside a duffle bag with her skull almost severed, inside the apartment of a registered sex offender who is now accused of covering up her death.
The homicide death of 33-year-old Brittany Battaglia has been the subject of a felony count of concealment against Genesis Silva, age 34. He is also accused of criminal obstruction of an officer and unauthorized use of a weapon by a felon. As of Thursday afternoon, he has not yet been put on trial for her homicide. The two, according to the prosecution, started dating in the spring of 2002.
Since last Friday, Battaglia had been reported missing. Silva’s residence in the 2000 block of North Kimball Avenue is where her body was discovered on Monday evening.
