American Billioanaire, Bill Gate has pledged to pay off $76 million debt Nigeria owe Japan

In the year 2014, the oil rich West African country were granted a $76m loan to help fight polio as part of the Overseas Development Assistance (ODA).

Nigeria were able to fight the disease with no case of polio reported in 2017 and only four cases reported in 2016, according to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

The 2nd richest man in the world, Bill Gates and his wife Melinda are set to pay the loan Nigeria secured from Japan to fight polio.

Running the largest private philanthropic organization in the world, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation spends just over $3 billion a year on development assistance, according to The Guardian.
