Benjamin Shreve, Jesse Buckner Died in plane crash near Rio Vista airport

Two local men were murdered on Thursday in the crash of an experimental plane near the Rio Vista Airport, and their friends and family are banding together to support the grieving families.

A Steen Skybolt biplane carrying Benjamin Shreve, 41, of Concord, and Jesse Buckner, 33, of Martinez, crashed into a field to the north and east of the Asta Construction Co. quarry.

On-site medical personnel pronounced both guys dead.

Around 11:45 a.m., the Solano County Sheriff’s office reported the collision; an unidentified pilot who orbited the scene guided ground personnel to the disaster site.

On Friday, a representative of the National Transportation Safety Board came in Rio Vista to start the organization’s investigation into the collision.

Shreve’s wife, a local teacher, and children, 2 and 7 years old, have a GoFundMe campaign set up on their behalf by friends and family of the professional pilot and Concord native.
