In a harrowing incident, a high school student’s life hangs in the balance as she fights for survival after a lightning strike during a hunting trip with her father.

The shocking event unfolded in Putnam County when lightning struck a tree and, in a moment of sheer misfortune, glanced off the tree, striking the father and rendering him unconscious. Upon regaining consciousness, the father made a heartbreaking discovery – his 16-year-old daughter, Baylee Holbrook, had stopped breathing.

In a race against time, the father dialed 911 and immediately began administering CPR to his daughter while awaiting help. Thanks to his quick and heroic actions, the teenager’s life was saved for the moment.

Baylee Holbrook was swiftly transported to HCA Florida Putnam Hospital, where medical professionals stabilized her condition. Recognizing the severity of her injuries, she was subsequently transferred to UF Health Shands in Gainesville, where she now battles for her life in critical condition.

The Putnam County School District has confirmed the identity of the young survivor as Baylee Holbrook. Her fellow students at Palatka Junior-Senior High School gathered on “See You at the Pole” day to offer their heartfelt prayers and support for their classmate, whose life has been forever altered by this tragic incident.
