Somewhere in August, 2017, Afro-dancehall musician Grace Awo Ocansey known in showbiz as Kaakie cancelled her contract with Xtra Large Music after 5 years.
The songstress later in an interview on Okay FM disclosed that her contract with the imprint was not the best for her and that her expectations were not met after six years with the label.
“I signed a contract and there are clauses in the contract and a lot of them are not favorable to me so if at the end of the six years with these clauses I’m still not where I want to be, I think I need to advice myself,” she said.
After her contract with Xtra Large Music, Kaakie has been missing in the music scene for a quite number of years. Her fans have been wondering what is actually preventing their songstress to serve music them with good music like before.
It was revealed that an entrenched clause in her contract with Xtra Large Music owned by Music Producer Jam Master Jay (JMJ) was the problem.
The states that Kaakie should never perform any of the songs released under the label if she parts ways with the label someday.
Ghanaian chastised Jam Master Jay for including such a clause in his contract with Kaakie.
Well, to make things clear, Jam Master Jay in a phone conversation with Amansan Krakye on Radio Central revealed emphasized that some artistes do not write their songs hence such artiste cannot claim ownership of such songs under no circumstance perhaps as in the case of Kaakie.
Explaining further, Jam Master Jay quizzed the host, Amansan Krakye if he’ll carry the same concept of the radio station he’s currently with to a different radio station if there comes a time he’s pushed to change the working environment. Similarly to Kaakie, the label helped her with all the hit songs so by no means she can claim ownership of the songs.
