Ato Essien tells court he is willing to refund GH¢27.5 million to the state
Business man Ato Essien has made a plea to the Accra High Court where he is standing trial for his role in the banking crisis.
Lawyers of Ato Essien told the court that their client is willing to refund GH¢27.5 million back to the state.
During the court hearing on Thursday May 21, 2020 counsel of Ato Essien said he has already paid GH¢1.4 million to the state and he’s willing to add the rest.
The state chief attorney leading the prosecution team Mrs Mariana Appiah Oppong confirmed to the court that accused has indeed inform them about his intentions to pay the money.
The Judge Eric Kyei-Baffour adjourned the case to June 18, 2020 after giving Ato Essien one month to send his proposal to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
This sound as a u-turn to what Ato Essien said on Good Evening Ghana a couple of months ago where he swore he was innocent and even accused the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta for witch hunting him.
