Armed Men storm Nigeria High Commission in Ghana to demolish uncompleted apartment (Video)

Armed men stormed the Nigerian High Commission in Accra to demolish an uncompleted apartment on Friday.

According to Joynews reporter who was present at the scene, the armed men threatened to fire gunshots should they staff of the High Commission try to stop them.

The uncompleted apartment is being constructed to house staff of the High Commission and visiting diplomats.

The head of Security at the Nigeria High Commission in Accra Emmanuel Kabutey said the armed men told him they have the backing of the National Security.

When the police came, they did not come to us or any other person but rather went straight to the man [leader of the armed men] they had a friendly chat, exchanged numbers with him and allowed him to go.”

“When they came back in, they took pictures but did not ask me or my boys anything,” – Emmanuel Kabutey said

 

 

 

This land has been in dispute after the expiration of the lease agreement which permitted the Nigerian High Commission to occupy the land.

In December 2019, a Microfinance owned by a Ghanaian notified the Nigerian High Commissioner on how they have encroached on his land backed by evidence from Ghana’s Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources with the consent of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

Nigeria High Commission turned a deaf ear to the notice and instead started erecting Apartments on it.
