Andre Ayew explains why he confronted the Gabon coach and the genesis of the fight

The AFCON 2021 Group C game between Ghana and Gabon was marred by a serious brawl.

The brawl was started by Andre Ayew’s confrontation of the Gabonese coach for his and his team’s  unsportsmanlike behavior.

They didn’t apply Flair Play rule which requires teams to kick the ball to their opponents to restart the game when an opponent stops a game for an injured player to be attended to.

Below is the sequence how are the brawl happened.

Ghana’s Kofi Kyereh was down injured so Baba Rahman hits the ball outside for the medics to attend to the injured player.

Ghanaian players were expecting the Gabonese to apply fair play and throw the ball to the Ghanaians for the game to re-start.

Gabonese players surprised the Ghanaian players, attacked and scored while Ghanaians sheepishly look on

Apparently it was the coach of Gabon Patrice Neveu who ordered his players not to respect the Fair Play rule.

The brawl was triggered by the Gabonese disregard of the FIFA Fair Play rule

This is the reason why Andre Ayew confronted him after the game leading to the brawl.

In the post match conference the Ghana Captain expressed how disappointed he is in the behavior of the Gabon team for disregarding the FIFA Fair Play rule.
