The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama, says the Free Senior High School (Free-SHS) programme was started by the NDC government in 2015.
He said the current government poorly implemented the programme, which compelled them to adopt the double track system and that he would abolish it when voted into power.
He said when voted back into government, “All the Community Day Schools we were building, 200 of them, we are going to finish them so that all the children can get schools to attend”.
He said the proposal by the former president to abolish the double track system within one year “will destroy Senior High School as we know it.”
In an earlier report, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said critics of the policy have been put to shame by the impressive performance of its first beneficiaries.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Friday, November 13, 2020, released interim results of candidates who sat for the WASSCE in 2020.
Analyses of the results had shown massive improvements in the performance of candidates as compared to the 2019 batch.
